Hurrah For Pip!

Just found out that the winner of the Joan Hessayon Award announced at last night's RNA Summer Party was (drum roll) Phillipa Ashley for her scrummy read Decent Exposure. Congrats PIP and very well deserved! I'm feeling particularly chuffed as I'd mooted her to win, hey just call me psychic. Last night I stayed home and watched the soap awards and just PRETENDED I was at the RNA party (note to self - get a life).

Can't wait to hear more about last night from those who were there (just call me NEEDY).

In other news - baby is still very comfy and no signs of any movement yet. This afternoon I'm off to see the consultant and be prodded. He's a very nice consultant and ripe for a Mills and Boon Medical.

Guess I'll also find out when induction might be likely (erk, gulp...yeah less said about that the better eh!)

It's My Due Date And I'll Cry If I Want To

Sorry to be a pessimist but the stats say it all...

95% of babies don't arrive on their due date. And the vast majority are late.

Here's the reasons why I may sound blue on my due date -
HEARTBURN (ouch, owww, owww)
I'm missing the RNA party and would dearly love to go (enjoy it all who are there!)
I'm just trying to be realistic about the stats in Mother & Baby mag (it's probably not gonna happen to order right?)
I've been up since five with daughter who won't sleep
My mum is ill/dizzy/gone home/can't take anymore!!
Car broke down, had to get AA and it's just had a new battery (daughter fiddled with tiny roof light without my knowledge just because she's a minx!)

Things can only get better.

jx - thanks to all who've cheered me/tried to help me out of the black hole that is Week 40!

Babe Still In Situ

Thanks for the posts...and for manically checking back on progress but sorry guys. No movement on the baby front.

I'm resigning myself now to going past my due date which is Wednesday. And knowing the RNA is having its party and that pals will be there including Pip and Jess is rather hard! (Have a brilliant time there btw!)

Sigh.

But I'm all set. Bags are packed and waiting. Even my little girl keeps saying 'Baby must come soon!' She has a point. Let's just wait and see. Surely it's gotta be in the wings?

P.S. I'm so fed up of the monotony of waiting I'm changing my sidebar pic - Man for May is now Donal MacIntyre. I mean how good looking is this man????? Ansa, vury, vury.

Modern Extra Author Wisdom

Some of you may or may not know that I'm a Mills & Boon Modern Extra writer wannabe (yup if my fairygodmother turned up wielding her glittery wand you can guess what my BIGOWISHO would be). I'm still working on that particular ambition and usually can be found with something in the pipeline for the line...(Let's not mention the requested full that went in on 3 Jan and just say the words 'still waiting on outcome' apply. BITES KNUCKLES, sheesh!)

Anyway my lovely and fragrant (hmmm she smells of Manuka Honey and baby soap) CP Nat has some renowned ModX authors popping by to add their wisdom on sex in a modern extra and other 'must know facts' if you're targeting the line.

Go check out the discussion here.....

Next In Line!

Yesterday I learned that the lady next in line before me to give birth just has. To a baby girl! I've also had a string of tip offs lately about recent pregnancies *yey* and it seems there's a baby boom on.

So now I'm at the front of the IMMINENT LABOUR QUEUE. Gulp.

It feels awfully scary standing here waiting. I'm clutching my TENS machine like Luke Skywalker does his light sabre.

As Yoda would say, "Panic, I must not!"

I wish I had a Yoda of my own for giving birth. Or a Mr Miyake from The Karate Kid.

Instead - I have my husband (who's an accountant and really not very qualified for the job - bless him).

Scary.

This Little Piggy!

These days I am mostly to be found with my feet up (feet are swollen like pig's trotters - I jest you not). The baby is very, very active lately and doing a private Macarena at every opportunity (I'd join in if my ankles would allow). I think this babe is going to be a bit of a groover.

The whole baby coming v soon thing has just hit me now juggernaut style -- our long-awaited, much hyped baby is soon going to make an appearance in our lives in a matter of days! Now everywhere I go strangers stop me and just ask 'when?' I keep asking myself the foolish question - is it that obvious? Ansa - YES!

Gasp. So after a seven year wait to have a baby it feels like now it's finally happening.
How I feel about it:
A touch nervous about how it will all go.
Super excited to get the labour bit over with.
Very keen for some cuddle time with groover baby unleashed.
In summary - I can't wait and pregnancy has been more of a rollercoaster ride than I ever envisaged.

So let the countdown commence.
We're on the home straight now.
Here's hoping the pig's trotters won't last for too long.

Baby Brain

Since the days prior to labour are going much too slooooooooow I intend to post baby and bump pics above in my COUNTDOWN TO BIRTH CAMPAIGN. Nothing else until the little one arrives. My brain can just about cope with that. Call me sad. Call me obsessive. But it's kind of therapeutic.

Pic number one sums up how I'm feeling. Ouch! Wince - kind of like an overfilled balloon. But without the ability to go pop.

What I'm reading - Cynthianna Appel The Fixer-Uppers - fantastic read it is too!

Thirty Seven Weeks - and Counting!

On Wednesday I hit 37 weeks which means the baby is classed as 'term' when it makes an appearance. Yey.
I'm strangely excited and enthused to crack on now. Waiting's never been my strong point but my, these three weeks feel like they're going to crawl.
In other news Nicola Marsh has just had her new baby son two weeks early (and if you visit her blog he's gorgeous) which just makes me want my little bumblino babe even more!
All in good time eh.

Ugh - Been Tagged!

The lovely, sultry and too witty to miss Amelia Elias tagged me! Ouch! Bullseye.

Eight random facts are required and eight victims for tagging. I could whine and moan and stamp my feet but where would be the point? So...

Here are the rules:1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.8 random facts/habits about me …

Here's my random facts -

  • I’ve been a best man at a wedding. Yes it’s true. It was a most nerve wracking experience never to be repeated. Though I did not lose the ring. Luckily I don’t think I’ll be asked again. And I didn’t have to snog the chief bridesmaid either. That would have been heinous (as gorgeous as she was on the day).

  • I’ve never been a bridesmaid (boo hoo). I hate to take things personally but how come I get to be ‘best man’ but don’t get to do the whole big skirted meringue ensemble affair?? Nor did I get to snog a best man or even an usher! Just not fair!!! Harumph!

  • I know all of the words to all the songs on Calamity Jane. Some might say sad…I say whip crack away and line me up a Sasperilly. I think part of the reason I love CJ is the fabby romantic elements of the story (or that’s the guise I’m hiding behind). Wild Bill Hicock a.k.a. Howard Keel in nubuck leather works for me whichever way I look at it. And I’m also a big closet Doris Day fan. In fact nothing makes me prouder than the fact my daughter is a bona fide Doris Day blonde. Yep Sir, I'll be putting her in candy pastel big skirts before she's six.

  • I used to have a corgi dog like the Queen’s. Hmmm. She was called Dusky and she was lovely – though she did bite me once but it was a mistake bite and we made up after ‘treatment’ and swabbing.

  • I’m allergic to Xmas trees. The needles bring me out in hives. Scratchy, scratchy hives. Tis true. Honest. So I make do with candles that smell of fir and spruce instead and just have an artificial tree (a very camp bronze one, in fact quite Elton John around the edges).

  • I’d like to swap hair with my best friend. Linda has long Titian locks – she claims to want a thick mop of raven hair like me, but I know ‘she know nathing’ and she just givva da yada yada. Red hair rocks! Italian men love it for one. Don’t listen to anyone who tells ya different.

  • I really fancy Donal MacIntyre the TV investigative Journalist. Happily he’s a blissfully married man as I am a contented happy wifelet. Coincidentally my lovely hubbie used to work in telly news in London and once saw Donal sporting a huge black eye from getting a pasting by a gang during an undercover job! Sigh – see he even boasts bad boy with a good heart credentials. Swoon. It’s good to have extra marital lustings though I’m told.

  • I’m an arachnaphobe. All spiders should die! And in my house – they frequently do. Perhaps this explains my lack of luck. And the big stains on my walls where I’ve clobbered them senseless with a mop.

Here's my victims (ok - not eight but I'm cheating! Hehehe). Nat and LindaMadGunnersGal in particular (Linda just do it by email if ya please!) If you read this and you want to join in....do,do,do!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Drumroll!

CONGRATULATIONS to the winner and runner up of my first ever contest!

Contest Winner - Juliemt (yey!)
Runner up - Marcy (yey again!)
Bravo to you both!

If Julie and Marcy could whizz me an email with your addresses - see the link on this blog to my web and click on contact - I'll get your prizes in the post pronto! Julie wins the gaggle of prizes already pictured and Marcy wins some Edinburgh tea, shortbread and a 'must have' George Clooney mug coaster! I know - too thrilling.

Thanks to all those who entered! You're bricks, truly.

In the meantime I'm suffering from last stretch of pregnancy lethargy. Three weeks to go and I'm huge, slow, and wanting this baby to come out soon. The labour bag is packed and staring at me ominously and basically this bouncing kicking babe is ripe and ready to spring into the world. If my posts ease up for a while it's probably because I'm sleeping...stuck in a chair...finding moving around a bit tricky...or repacking the labour bag again. jx
